  Specifically, the main classification of steel for high-speed rail projects is steel for line infrastructure, steel for tunnel construction, steel for car bodies, steel for wheels, steel for passenger stations, and so on.

  Line infrastructure steel: the track pillow from the concrete cast without ballast track, roadbed without gravel, rail track pillow laid directly on the concrete, so the general engineering materials (ordinary steel reinforcement, low relaxation prestressed steel strand, etc.) is difficult to meet the requirements of high-speed rail roadbed construction, and need to use higher strength and larger specifications of low relaxation prestressed steel strand, PC steel bar (prestressed concrete steel bar), HRB500 high-strength steel. At the same time, at present, China's track construction process mainly uses 60 kg / m, 75 kg / m heavy rail. In addition, bridges account for a large proportion in the construction of high-speed railways, and have higher requirements on steel performance.

  Steel for tunnel construction: the construction of high-speed railway tunnels is one of the most critical aspects of high-speed railway into the complex karst area, the workload is large, the engineering difficulty is extremely high. For example, the construction of Zheng Wan high-speed railway (Henan Zhengzhou to Chongqing Wanzhou) on a small Three Gorges tunnel, which will take more than 5 years, is expected to be fully completed in early 2022, the construction of civil works of the small Three Gorges tunnel. It is understood that the construction of karst tunnel not only need to use support steel, such as tunnel culvert with corrugated steel culvert, support steel pipe, steel arch, steel grille and other steel, but also need a large number of pouring concrete with two lining car, tunneling machine and a large number of advanced equipment. Here the steel required not only for the construction of various types of steel directly, but also involves the manufacture of various types of special machinery and equipment of the steel.

The cleanliness, toughness, wear resistance, rolling process and testing conditions of the steel have all put forward extremely high requirements.   Passenger station construction steel: high-speed rail stations are widely used in large-span steel structure, the variety of steel used, medium-thick plate (extra thick plate) accounted for more than 50%, hot-rolled H-type steel accounted for about 15%, color coated plate (galvanized plate) accounted for about 12%, about 3.5% of the pipe, other steel and cold-formed steel accounted for about 19%, the overall requirements of steel with high strength, high toughness, weldability, as well as seismic, laminate resistance Tearing, fire resistance, weather resistance and other properties, so high-strength steel, weather-resistant steel, narrow yield strength steel, light thin-walled H-beams, TMCP (Thermo-Mechanical Control Process) type high toughness ultra-wide H-beams are key research and development and production varieties.

  It is estimated that the construction investment cost of a passenger dedicated line with a design speed of 250 km/h is around 0.87 billion yuan/km, and it is expected that the scale of China's new high-speed rail investment will be about 200 billion yuan in 2017-2030. According to statistics, the steel consumption per billion yuan of China's railway capital construction investment has risen from 0.32 million tons to 0.33 million tons in previous years. According to this projection, in 2017-2030, the steel consumption due to high-speed rail construction will reach 66.6 million tons.
